Ethical Reflections on a Values Education Research Project

Over the past four years Professor Crotty has been involved with a number of Australian schools involved in projects related to Values Education. These projects have been sponsored by DEST (now DEEWR) grants under what was called Values Education Good Practice Schools Stage 1 and Stage 2 (VEGPS 1and 2) and (since 2009 and still in progress) Values in Action School Project (VASP). Professor Crotty reflects on what he considers to be some interesting ethical issues involved during the second of these, the Values Education Good Practice Schools Stage 2. What was happening in the clusters? Was the educational procedure being adequately supervised? The following is his initial reaction to what was experienced.
